Anybody have information they can share concerning the issues/problems that sidelined the C&O 1309 this past weekend at the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad?

The issues were minor enough that it only missed one trip. Engine would not come out of simple compound. Fixed and placed back into service.

What is "simple compound"?

Because a compound uses the exhaust from the high pressure cylinders to power the low pressure cylinders that
becomes an issue on start up as no steam is available until the cylinders stroke on the high pressure side. This is
rtemedied by a diverter valve which makes high pressure steam available to the low pressure side. Guess would
be that they had some problem with said valve.
