Steam & Excursion > Russ Shipman- ATSF 2926Date: 09/25/25 13:37 Russ Shipman- ATSF 2926 Author: BoilingMan In the course of the tour of the American Freedom Train we came across several retired steam locomotives stuffed & mounted in parks and museums around the country. At the time it seemed unthinkable any of them would ever run again.
Think again... Here are Russ' photos of ATSF 2926 all but forgotten in the park in Albuquerque in Feb '76. Only 2yrs before, the 4449 sat in much the same situation. I guess that should have been a clue as to The Future. I'm pretty sure that the Santa Fe kept EXCELLENT mileage, trip, and maintenance records on ALL the pieces of motive power, both steam and then diesel. SR When I drove for Greyhound in the early 80’s that’s how it was done. Greyhound bus of that time (MC-5 thru MC-9) did not have odometers of any kind. (Yes, really!) Mileage was recorded by written records.. |
