Steam & Excursion > Big Boy 4023 getting repainted

On my way from KC to Omaha Tuesday the 30th I was westbound on I-80 entering Omaha. The locomotive was in primer and the tender had fresh black paint applied. The paint crew was on site.

Glad to see this, 4023 was starting to look pretty rough. I would have thought the previous paint job would have lasted longer than 20 years.

Static locomotives don't last long in paint....maybe the powers that be aren't using the very best paint...

Yes, they probably just used acrylic enamel paint. You would think with the money they are spending to have it painted they would invest in a more industrial paint like a urethane. Maybe I am over thinking it who knows.
