Forty or More Years Ago - Chessie 614
Author: refarkas

(Mark Perri photo) It is a less than perfect day in August 1982. Chessie 614 is putting on a great show at an unknown location.

I believe that shot was the westbound CSE 614 along the Casselman River at what the railroad called Cole Cut MP 217.5 on what was then the Main Line Sub. That was between Salisbury Jct. and Yoder,PA. on the West Slope of Sand Patch Grade. The new Rte. 219 Bridge that was built in 1997 would now be visible in the extreme background. I've included a shot of R-353 taken on 5/30/93 very close to the 614 shot. Not sure about the August 1982 date. The Safety Express ran in 1980 and 1981. Thanks for the post. I thought that shot looked familiar.

On the extreme right edge of the 5/30/93 photo, isn't that the former Western Maryland Meyersdale Viaduct?

Both are great photos and especially the photo of the Chessie Steam Safety Express back in 1980.  Thanks, Bob, for sharing that photo with all of us.
