Steam & Excursion > Oct.27, 2017, Western Maryland Scenic; Video addedDate: 10/27/25 03:39 Oct.27, 2017, Western Maryland Scenic; Video added Author: bigsavage GP30 # 501 was painted into the Western Maryland Railway's 1969 red/white/black "circus" scheme in late summer in an effort to draw interest in the railroad, with #734 and #1309 both down.Several weeks later, the CMO would be dismissed, and 1309 was looking like a permanently stalled project.
On this day, only myself and former NS photographer Casey Thomason were shooting this run. Locations are at Ridgeley, WV, and at Trimble Rd. at Slabtown, MD. Edited 1 time(s). I too have great memories of riding Western Maryland Excursion Trains in those good-ole-days before the Chessie System absorbed the WM and then destroyed most of it. But I am grateful that the WM Scenic continues to operate the trips from Cumberland up to Frostburg keeping part of the WM alive for all to enjoy.
