2 Footer Up in Maine
Author: cn6218

I spent the last weekend of October up in New England, with Saturday devoted to the Wiscassett, Waterville & Farmington museum in Alna, ME.  The museum has reconstructed about 3 miles of the original right of way, abandoned in the 1930s, after the WW&F went bankrupt, and the rails were sold for scrap.  Looking at this in the 21st Century, it's hard to believe these train weren't just an amusement ride of sorts back in their hey day, but it was a real common carrier, moving people and commodities, before paved roads were as ubiquitous as they are today.  The WW&F never did reach Waterville or Farmington, but thanks to some dedicated volunteers, its memory lives on today.

In the video, the first train of the day (October 25th) has reached the siding at Alna Center.

Thank you for sharing the video.

To what do "M L & M" refer?  In doing an internet search as well as looking at the book The Best of Maine Railroads, I could not find any railroad with those initials.

I believe this represents "Maine Locomotive & Machine Works" (a steam services company....) that operates out of Alna, Maine.....
