Former Denver & Rio Grande Western RR 491, K-37 2-8-2 narrow gauge steam engine was turned on the Colorado Railroad Museum (CRRM) turntable and placed in the roundhouse Saturday, 8 November 2025 at Golden, Colorado.  Diesel #4 helped with the move.  #20 was steamed up.

DRGW 318 at CRRM - Preparations for Polar Express
Author: cozephyr

Colorado Railroad Museum folks were busy getting their property ready for the almost sold out Polar Express trains starting this month and running into December just before Christmas.  The 318 was on one of the tracks near the turntable as the last golden leaves showed near the museum building.

It would be fun to visit and help push the Armstrong turntable around.

That armstrong table is something else...  I'd hate to be pushing it.

What's the story on the Q liveried switcher.

I liked the shots and the video.

#4 is one of two ex-Algoma Steel narrow gauge center cabs that came to the museum from the Durango & Silverton. 4 came to the museum in 2004, and was part of the first group of diesels the Silverton acquired in 2002 due to the Missionary Ridge Fire. In 2023, the museum acquired the second diesel from the D&SNG. The larger #7 can be seen in the background behind 491 on the turntable. The 4 currently operates the Saturday train rides outside of special events where steam is running, and performs switching around the grounds.

My understanding on the Q paint job is that 4 was due to be repainted a few years ago, and the staff decided that it could use a different look from the D&RGW-inspired scheme. The herald reads Golden City & San Juan, which is the roadname that museum founder Bob Richardson gave to his narrow gauge operation when he moved his collection to Golden from Alamosa in 1959.
