Steam & Excursion > Maryland Midland's EnterTrainment Line, 11/1991Date: 11/16/25 04:47 Maryland Midland's EnterTrainment Line, 11/1991 Author: bigsavage Chase of a November, 1991 Sunday afternoon excursion from Union Bridge, MD. to Highfield, MD., with late friend John Floyd.
The EnterTrainment Line ran from 1990-1995 on the MMID, the contractor furnished cars and staff, MMID supplied motive power/crew. F-units and Geeps were used on these trains. 1.MMID #794 was the power on this day, x-N&W GP9, repainted and chop-nosed into MMID #201 in 1993. 2.Approaching Wye Road WB just east of Keymar, MD, This location has since been compromised by crop planting and fencing. 3. B&O #3302 Edward Hooper generally graced the rear. Date: 11/16/25 04:56 Re: Maryland Midland's EnterTrainment Line, 11/1991 Author: bigsavage 1.Passing then-new siding just west of Rocky Ridge, MD.
The siding then served Redland Brick, now Glen-Gery Brick, but they have not used rail service in at least 5 years. 2. Westbound at foot of Catoctin grade in Thurmont, MD. This nice shot was ruined by neglect of the grassy lawn in the foreground, and a row of garish, cheap townhomes on the other side. 3. WB at Flint, MD., this location is now posted. 2. Running around at Highfield, MD. That wonderful WM original section shed was allowed to fall to pieces until it collapsed. 3. Rolling downgrade on the big curve at Sabillasville, MD. Bob Date: 11/16/25 09:42 Re: Maryland Midland's EnterTrainment Line, 11/1991 Author: ClubCar Thank you, Bigsavage for your photos on the former Western Maryland Railway, the Maryland Midland. The Club Car B&O 3302 at that time was still owned by the group called Railroad Passenger Cars, Inc. (RRP) and was leased to the Entertrainment Line. That car has so much history to tell. It was retired from the B&O in 1969 and the late William J. Howes, Jr., who was the manger at that time of the B&O/C&O Passenger Service, helped with the sale of this car to the Baltimore Chapter, NRHS, whereby it was named the "Edward G. Hooper." The history behind this car is way too long to put here; however, this car operated in regular B&O Passenger Train Service after it had been retired by the B&O as Mr. Howes would lease the car back every year for the busy Thanksgiving Season, and again during the busy Christmas Season up until the B&O regular passenger service ended when Amtrak began in May 1971. However, this car was still very popular, and it was still operated every year with special trains on the B&O, the C&O, and the Western Maryland. In 1972, due to insurance problems, the Baltimore Chapter of the NRHS, sold the car to RRP. The car continued to be leased by many organizations including other NRHS Chapters, various corporations, as well as the Chessie System (B&O, C&O, and WM). This car was the rear observation car on the Chessie Steam Safety Express (with 614) in 1980 &81, then it was used many additional times by the Chessie System as an extra special car along with their office cars, as all kinds of dignitaries rode in this car. RRP then leased the car to the Entertrainment Line in 1990. When the Entertrainment Line went out of business in 1995, RRP had the car returned to Baltimore and then RRP went out of business whereupon the 3302 was donated to the B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore. Unfortunately, the B&O Railroad Museum changed management and the folks that took over did not maintain this car at all. Since 1995 upon coming to the museum, the car has been sitting outside in the yard collecting rust to where much is now needed to preserve this historic car. Hopefully, with the new management now in operation, they will realize the value now of this one-of-a-kind Club Car, and they will begin to at least cosmetically (steel work and new paint, roof repairs) to keep this paired narrow window car for future generations to enjoy. Recently some of the former RRP members were invited to look at the 3302 at the B&O R.R. Museum. Photo one shows the bar area. while photo two shows the back of the car. Photo three shows the exterior of the car with all the rust, especially on the roof area where some water could be entering the car. RRP former members are in first photo L to R, Shelley Hopkins, Dan Grone, Dennis Fulton, Gary Schlerf, Mary Carol Bruff, and former president of RRP, John B. Buxton.
