Steam & Excursion > 1225 IssuesDate: 11/22/25 12:56 1225 Issues Author: filmteknik From SRI
As many have already noticed, steam locomotive Pere Marquette 1225 discovered an unforeseen mechanical issue during our test run prior to our first North Pole Express excursion. For the preservation and repair of the locomotive as well as providing a reliable experience for all of our passengers, we made the necessary decision to operate using our diesel locomotives while we diagnose the issue and work to get 1225 back in service. Pere Marquette 1225 is a historic and complex piece of machinery and that can present many challenges with equipment, often without advanced notice. Our crews are working diligently around the clock to address these issues and return to service as soon as possible. No one is more discouraged to not run under steam than our teams who have been working tirelessly over the past year to prepare 1225 for the 2025 North Pole Express season. We ask for your patience as we work through this newest challenge and for your support for our team of staff and volunteers who are putting all of their passion, expertise, and time into ensuring that our North Pole Express trips are every bit as magical as expected and we are caring for 1225 to ensure it continues to run for years to come. We would like to thank Watco and the Great Lakes Central Railroad for their support and the use of their locomotive maintenance facility. Also a bearing was mentioned. I'd guess on the bolt if the engine were running on Sunday.
