PM 1225's replacement power today
Author: jkh2cpu

As noted in a previous post, PM 1225 was eager to ramble, but issues kept it at home.  Fingers crossed for next Saturday :-)

Anyway, I didn't let the dissapointment spoil my fun and I followed the train any way for timing and the spotting of new locations.

I had the gps unit on the Nikon and here's what I can tell you about timing and locations.

Owosso at 10:19        42°59'40.5"N 84°10'44.4"W
Carland at 10:44       43°03'37.4"N 84°18'15.3"W
Near Ashley at 11:12   43°09'35.9"N 84°26'51.7"W

If you plug the lat-long info into google maps it shows where I was standing when I took the shots.

I was late in leaving Owosso after the train passed.  If I had been ready to hit the road just after the photo, I would have made it to a spot on Smith Road that has a nice view of the track.  I should make that next weekend and I'll have the lat-long info for that spot as well.

The spot near Ashley looks promising as one gets a good view of the train.  There is a swamp between the track and where I was standing on Ransom road, and there are various small trees trying to make a go of it.

As far as the driving goes,  if I get out of Owosso sooner, I'll make it to the Smith Road location with minutes to spare, to Carland with minutes to spare, and to the spot on Ransom with minutes to spare.  I'm an old geezer and I just put-put along at the speed limit of 55 on the pavement.  The few dirt roads are best traveled at speeds under 45 miles an hour on dry days.  Wet or snow covered road will slow a person down on the dirt.

PS:  The passenger coaches have been painted in the SRI livery which is a knock-off of the old C&O passenger livery.  They really look sharp and I can't wait to snap a few with the PM 1225 leading the parade.

57 has an operable Gyralite and no ditch lights.  I hope you get some pix, or better yet video of that.  BSB
