"Toys for Tots trackcar excursion on UCIR
Author: Pattenburg

November 23, 2025 marked the seventh year that Union County Industrial Rail (UCIR)l has hosted speeders for this annual event. Seton was held at Country View Family Farms Feed Mill in New Columbia, PA on what was a frigid and frosty morning. Thirteen speeders, some being decorated, were off on what was to be a thirty-mile round trip.
Their excursion started off with them backing up from the seton location to traverse the feed mill’s 8,250-foot loop track. This track can accommodate a 105-car unit train of corn which is delivered by Norfolk Southern. They anticipate moving approximately 4,000 carloads annually for this operation. North Shore Railroad’s (NSHR) pilot set a slow pace for the speeders to enjoy this portion of the excursion.
After passing through the unloading facility (Photo 1), this procession came to a brief stop (Photo 2) that allowed both operators and their passengers to fathom the magnitude of what stood before them. A few operators did take photos of their speeder with the feed mill serving as a backdrop. That photo only captured a small portion of this facility.  Having a 176-foot-tall mill tower that has a 3,582-square-foot base and four 150-foot-tall grain silos, is almost impossible to get this entire structure into a single photo frame. The final photo, taken on company property with their permission, shows the speeders leaving this facility and getting ready to start their "Toys for Tots" excursion to White Deer Railroad Museum. Additional stops were planned in Lewisburg and Winfield.

This is so cool! I wish our local branch line did something similar
