Steam & Excursion > C&O 2699 in the frozen northDate: 01/26/26 10:09 C&O 2699 in the frozen north Author: masterphots Here are a few images of the C&O 2699, aka PM 1225, photo charter January 17-18. Despite the miserable climatic conditions, minus teen windchill anyone?, it was a great trip. Nice train, good photo opps, and a chance to catch up with longtime friends and meet new people.
One young'un asked me what kind of camera I had. Nikon 3, a film camera. I think he understood. I was probably the only one shooting EK100, along with my trusty cell phone. The best for me was when a dear friend who I traveled all over the world with didn't reognize me and vice versa. He finally asked who I was....been 25 years and I know we've aged, but still...... To sum up, a five star trip and great fun. And I avoided frost bite ! Anyway, here are a few photos All taken somewhere out of Owosso, MI on January 17-18, 2026 Date: 01/26/26 10:12 Re: C&O 2699 in the frozen north Author: masterphots The car in the last photo is a pre-Chrysler Dodge Bros. coupe Was interesting to see the owner deal with the snowy road. He told me the brakes are mechanical and only on the rear wheels.
P.S. Good to back in Chile where it cooled off to 85 today. I'm wondering: did you guys ride the train, or did you get carted around. Getting carted would be easier for us old guys with respect to loading and unloading from the train numerous times in the cold and brutal wind.
The loc really wears that C&O livery well. Your second shot is at Ithaca, and the next three are along Upham Road, which I'm checking out next winter as it is a nice unobstructed view of the track that should be good for video. John.
