Cotton Belt speedster

These oOOOO consolidations were used for fast freights such as the early BSM.

Note Boxpok main driver.  This one built in '27 and scrapped just after the war in Pine Bluff Arkansas.

A Cotton Belt hot rod Consolidation. Love it!  What I would have given to see one of these racing on the flats north of Pine Bluff with the Blue Streak. Thanks for a neat image of this little racer.

What a neat Consolidation. I'm more familiar with that configuration as used in Pennsylvania coal country in drag freight use, until the 2-8-2 Mikados took over (the trailing truck allowed a bigger firebox).
It is almost comical to think of a 2-8-0 as a speedster, but apparently it worked. I too would have liked to have seen one cruising along with freight.

Didn't some of these wind up in California in the early 50s?

Cotton Belt 4-8-4s wound up in California but, I doubt any 2-8-0s did.

Yes, 4 SSW 2-8-0's wound up on the SP in California in the 2861 series.

In April 1960, I photo'd a couple of them in the Bayshore deadline.
