Steam & Excursion > 4501 on July 27, 1985Date: 02/06/26 11:11 4501 on July 27, 1985 Author: MaryMcPherson Since we have had the announcement that Southern Railway #4501 is going to be sporting the Green and Gold from her days with the Southern / Norfolk Southern steam program, I suppose I should pile on with the looking back.
Let's start with another George Redmond audio clip, made while chasing the train on July 27th, 1985, on a Huntingburg to Evansville, round trip. A trio of color photos from the same day will follow. This recording was made with George's mono tape recorder as the chase car paced alongside the locomotive as the train was entering Evansville. Here are a few photos from 4501's latest new lease on life.
4. Outside the shop on steam-up Friday on October 23rd, 2015. Note the image of 4501 in the TVRM's logo reflected in the headlight. I'd forgotten about that! 5. Exactly a year later, 4501 turns on the wye at Grand Junction after returning with a run of the Summerville Steam Special. October 23rd, 2016. 6. Who knows what scheme she sports here!?!?! Approaching LaFayette, Georgia, on October 11th, 2025. We already have loose plans to catch her in green this year! Fun fact: trips out of Huntingburg were actually sponsored by a local committee headed by the mayor. Guess he must've been a big railfan!
