Daniel Senise, an Indiana Harbor Belt conductor signals 307, a Class U-3a 0-8-0 built by Baldwin in 1919, while spotting cars at Arcady Milling Company in Blue Island, Illinois, February 1943. The entire crew was photographed with the 304, also a U-3a. Left to right: Daniel Senise, switchman, conductor, and foreman; Edward Kletecka, fireman; F.K. Gwinner, engineer; E.H. Albercht, switchman, and John McCarthy, switchman.

Two more first-class historic images. The crew in photo two probably know they are being photographed, but they seem so happy. They seem to enjoy each other and work. Photos from earliers times often showed crew members with somber looks on their faces.

It's great that Jack recorded their names. Hopefully, they got copies of the photo.

Back in that day, an 8x10 from the Farm Securities Administration cost $1 according to the book In This Proud Land (a history of the FSA historical division).

My OCD won't leave me alone sometimes and I have to fiddle with pictures.
The LOC version of these were nice and sharp but dull and logy.
Hope this doesn't offend.

I understand completely, my father had it to such a degree we often joked that in his case it was CDO because the letters had to be in the right order.

Not an orange vest, hard hat, or a radio to be seen, it is amazing that they did such a good job!

The first car out is an Pennsy X-29, probably the most common boxocar in railroad history.

I'm not offended, but I do prefer the originals.  They seem to have a bit more detail in both the highlights and the dark sections.  Just my personal taste.

Of course, different computer monitor settings, or a hard copy, might have me judging differently.
