Steam & Excursion > Up Close & PersonalDate: 02/12/26 08:17 Up Close & Personal Author: MacBeau Daniel Senise, an Indiana Harbor Belt conductor signals 307, a Class U-3a 0-8-0 built by Baldwin in 1919, while spotting cars at Arcady Milling Company in Blue Island, Illinois, February 1943. The entire crew was photographed with the 304, also a U-3a. Left to right: Daniel Senise, switchman, conductor, and foreman; Edward Kletecka, fireman; F.K. Gwinner, engineer; E.H. Albercht, switchman, and John McCarthy, switchman.

The crew in photo two probably know they are being photographed, but they seem so happy. They seem to enjoy each other and work. Photos from earliers times often showed crew members with somber looks on their faces.

The LOC version of these were nice and sharp but dull and logy. Hope this doesn't offend. I'm not offended, but I do prefer the originals. They seem to have a bit more detail in both the highlights and the dark sections. Just my personal taste. Of course, different computer monitor settings, or a hard copy, might have me judging differently. |
