Steam Saturday - Chessie 614
Author: refarkas

Connellsville, Pennsylvania on September 21, 1980 was the location of Chessie System 614 and her westbound train. This was a one-way ferry move from Cumberland, Maryland to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Thanks, Bob, as that is a great photo and there must have been a number of people with you that day as I have seen several other photos like your by other people.  That is a beautiful train for sure.  The sad part is that several of the cars in that train were and are special and yet no one has bothered to maintain certain historic cars for the future, very sad indeed.

I agree, John, regarding the existing consist whereabouts and conditions.
What is known is that the  "Conneaut" toolcar is well maintained and servicable at the Age of Steam Roundhouse in Sugarcreek, Ohio.

Neat shot.  I boarded the train that day, there in Connellsville for the ride into Pittsburgh.

Does anybody know if the concession car (fourth car back from the headend) still survives?
