ACL 1504 restoration

Any updates?

The frame and tender are sitting in the weeds outside the old Lucey Boiler shop in Chattanooga, TN. That's the only part of the restoration visible to me after FMW lost their workspace there. The boiler, cab, and drivers were taken elsewhere, I believe to FMW's shop in Soddy Daisy, TN but I'm not certain.

The drivers are sitting in the wheel shop at TVRM with no tires--the state they were in when Sugar pulled the plug.

Pulled the plug? As in no longer interested in having a second operable steam locomotive?

I'll admit I thought that was a bit over the top when 1504 was announced. Maybe a little buyer's remorse now that the honeymoon is over?

148 seems just perfect for the level at which their steam program is operating at present.

Did US Sugar buy or lease the ACL 1504? I hope another party can take over the project.

To be fair, sitting next to the ocean for 60+ years didn't do it any favors. I'll leave it at that.

Thanks. Maybe I should change my hope to having it put back together, cosmetically restored, and displayed in a protected environment.

Is 1504 the only USRA light Pacific left? It's a very handsome locomotive.

I was recently on an online group slide show and one of the participants had been at the US Sugar's #148 excursion in January. I asked about the status of 1504 and he said that he was told that they still planned on restoring it to operation. However the need for some track rehabilitation along with the decision that they needed to get some new freight cars for their sugar trains has put a delay on the project.

I'd love to be wrong on this but not likely.
