Something Amiss
Author: MacBeau

Either the date or the second engine number in the information attributed to this photograph is incorrect. The lead locomotive, K4s 227 came from Juniata in 1917 and still looks the part, complete with extended piston rods and gas headlight. According to the caption, this image was taken west of Altoona in April 1921, and that might have flown except the second locomotive, K4s 3872, would not be built for another two years. A delightful view of #25 The Metropolitan, despite the discrepancies.

Think about the way PRR numbered steam locos that weren't organized by class (but rather replacing a retired loco of the same number) and that might explain difficulty in getting accurate roster information. The railroad itself might have had hiccups in the process.

The self-proclaimed "Standard Railroad of the World" seemed to have no standard when it came to it's locomotive numbering plan.
