Streamy Saturday - NKP 765 returning to Durand from Alma, MI
Author: jkh2cpu

I snapped this on at 3:15 PM on October 15th, 2011.  The NKP 765 was up in Michigan to pull an SRI color tour between Ithaca an Cadillac on the first of October.  The train left in good shape and I chased it to Cadillac.  At Cadillac a broken spring hanger was found, putting NKP 765 out of action until a repair could be effected.  The 765 limped back to Owosso the next day, and the two-piece spring hanger returned to the wizards in Fort Wayne who make the repair and sent the one-piece spring hanger back to Owosso for the steam smiths there to reattach the hanger.  On the 15th of October NKP 765 made a run from Owosso to Alma and return.  Here we see the proud loco leaving Alma and hauling the troops and daily-pickers back to Owosso.

That's really a terrific photo of a great locomotive, thanks for sharing it with all of us.

She's just dirty enough to look really good. Looks like she's earning her keep.
Did the 700s have whitewalls in regular service?

The were delivered from Lima with them, and they seemed to always come out of shoppings with them, but I'll leave it people more expert than me on how often they were either cleaned or repainted in between. I know it's controversial in the enthusiast community, but I am a 100% fan of the white tires and running boards. I think it makes a DRAMATIC difference in the appearance of the locomotive, and #765 just seems completely off without them, but I am also sympathetic to historical accuracy for those locomotives that weren't, even though I think (for example) #1225 would look VASTLY better with them.

Whitewalled tires and white lines always look good. <G>

Yes, thanks for asking. it is my 1966 Mustang. I have the original window sticker and invoice too and have owned it for 15 years. But it remains mostly in the garage, as I don't drive it much anymore.

I had no idea you were a car guy too. I have a 1972 Chevelle SS convertible, and we just finished a ground up restoration of my best friend's 1957 Belair. His brother, who is also one of my very closest friends is looking for a 1965-1966 Mustang convertible, but his wife is making him save up a little more money before he makes a purchase.
