Toss Back Tuesday - LA&L 38
Author: refarkas

Here is a redo of a favorite photo from 1973. Modern technology gives a much better image from this old High speed Ektachrome push-processed to ASA 400 slide.
Livonia Avon and Lakeville 38 and its train await departure in Livonia, New York on July 25, 1973.

Very nice image of a classy small steam locomotive, thanks for sharing this with all of us, Bob.

Miss that operation and had couple of rides in the cab of 38. Today the tracks are gone here and the station is a restaurant.

Interesting Bob.  The Livonia Avon and Lakeville pulled up the tracks to Livonia in 1981 and now they run about 65 miles of profitable track of their own and a total of 400 miles of which includes 3 other shortlines in New York State and PA.

If this is the same engine I'm thinking of, it went to the Knox and Kane and ran there until the early 90s when Sloan Cornell bought SY1658M from Tangshan in China. 1658 was renumbered to 58 and then took over to the end. 38, if I'm not mistaken, now lives on the Everett Railroad but still does not operate. 58 became NH 3025 at the Valley Railroad in Essex, CT and is operational (possibly out for a 1472 - ICR).
