The continued exploits of Porky: Switching the mill
Author: roustabout

Albany & Eastern's gem-of-a-steam-locomotive, Santa Maria Valley #205, ran light engine from Lebanon a few miles east to the big lumber mill at Bauman.  This mill is probably the railroad's largest customer.  Although there was already one of A&E's locomotives out there, they didn't use it, instead soupling to it and handling it isolated for the pull & spot move they made.  The nine lumber loads were a bit of a challenge for the little Baldwin Prairie, but they got the work done and trundled back to Lebanon light lokie.  Porkie will be pulling an excursion for Winterail tomorrow, all the way to Sweet Home.  It should be a good trip and the five car train I hear they're pulling will be a bit of work for #205 climbing up to Sweet Home.

When I was checking into my hotel this afternoon in Lebanon I unexpectedly heard her whistling off in the distance. I just ended up standing outside for like 5 minutes listening as she worked her way through town and across the various road crossings. Man she sure sounded nice. I'm looking forward to the excursion in the morning.

Not many center beams have had the priviledge of being switched by a steam locomotive.
