Steam & Excursion > SP 4449 in LouisianaDate: 03/29/26 03:52 SP 4449 in Louisiana Author: gcm April 1977
(1) This is the Amtrak Transcontinental Steam Excursion taking the 4449 back home. On this day the train was westbound on the SP Sunset Route, left New Orleans earlier and going to Houston for an overnight stay. (2) I believe the dome was an ex-CB&Q dome-coach built by Budd in 1947 for the Twin Zephyr trains - possibly Silver Stream. (3) The last car was 9310, an ex-Wabash dome parlor observation car built by Budd in 1950 for the Blue Bird. Gary Date: 03/29/26 04:56 Re: SP 4449 in Louisiana Author: ClubCar Yes, that is a great looking train and I only wish Amtrak and the Class One Railroads would allow these kinds of trips to happen today, but the costs and especially the liability issues prevent this from happening. Sad.
