I've taken care of white walls on a much much smaller locomotive. The crew are going to have fun keeping those clean.

On pages 169 and 170 of the 1941 Locomoitive Cyclopedia, there are photos of Big Boy 4002 with white tires and walkway edges..

Yes, i.e. a "Builder's photo" at the ALCO plant.

Nothing says "tourist train"  then white wall tires on the wheels of a steam locomotive.. Big Boy is serious business and a great deal of historical  information.. Let's not gaudy it up

Whitewalls? The obtrusive medallion above the headlight? The goofy flags in front? Tacky. What an absolute shame.

Never forget that the Challenger was discarded for this abominable display.

I'm glad she's steaming and touring.  The 'additions' are for the folks watching the train, not us.  If you look at historic photos you will find examples of all of these additions spotted on UP 4014.  Weren't Southern PS4s really decked out to the nines?

Come on folks.  Stop the griping and accept the fact that the UP boys are changing things up and having some fun.

Maybe they are doing this just to annoy the traditionalists.

I dislike the whitewalls.
Also dislike the Abraham Lincoln engine disrupting the yellow consist.

Nevertheless, that's my opinion & it's good to see the Big Boy begin its coast to cost adventure.  Good luck & safe travels to the crew.

That's an overpowered excursion train and I know the desiels will be doing most of the work!

video in another thread showed 4014 doing the work to climb Sherman Hill 🤷‍♂️

also... why are we still bitching about 3985? Give it a damn rest. Ed gave it to Steve S and by everything I've seen and know about RHMA it WILL operate again.
seriously. After this long it's time to shut up about 3985.

Where did I say anything on that comment about 3985, besides why do you think I could care less about this is because of how Ed treated the old crew anyway when he took over, and you can go back and see comments from everyone on that, besides it still sucks 844's been sitting cold in the roundhouse for 6 years!
