Steam & Excursion > Reading & Northern Re:UP4014Date: 04/06/26 15:49 Reading & Northern Re:UP4014 Author: bigsavage Date: 04/06/26 16:13 Re: Reading & Northern Re:UP4014 Author: ns2557 Just saw a 2:44 sec audio clip on this trip on the Trains Magazine site. It simply amazes me that a magazine that dedicates itself to the Rail Fan hobby among other can't pronounce the name of the RR this excursion is to operate on. Whoever the narrator is calls it the Reading as in what your doing now, and Northern instead of how the name is actually pronounced, like REDDING. Bet the fine folks there at Pt Clinton and former RDG Employees are just beside themselves. Perhaps abit of editing prior to releasing that audio would be to far of a stretch. Ben

Ben Having not seen the audio could the narrator be AI? I’ve seen some documentaries on YouTube of various things and they use AI narration and you can count on several things being mispronounced. Edit: Just listened to it. Clearly an AI voice Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/06/26 17:51 by Spoony81. Date: 04/06/26 19:45 Re: Reading & Northern Re:UP4014 Author: ns2557 Spoony81 Wrote:

Clearly an AI voice Never even thought of it being AI. For me I'm just not programmed to go to the AI side. Don't like it. But anymore, I guess that's where one has to go. Photos, audio, movies just about everything anymore. You can keep it. Ben Date: 04/06/26 22:28 Re: Reading & Northern Re:UP4014 Author: junctiontower Spoony81 Wrote:

Clearly an AI voice AI is no excuse for a shoddy product or presentation. I fail to see why people are so enamored with it when most of what I see is so second rate. I actually think we should start making fun of people who rely on it to do what they should be doing themselves. Posted from iPhone Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/06/26 22:29 by junctiontower. This states it will be a one-way trip. Any thoughts on how passengers will get back from Pittston to Nesquehoning where their cars likely are parked?

There's the obvious narrating errors, I hear them all the time and usually bust out laughing, as well as many factual errors. Just today the NY Times has a piece about Google's AI summary that we all see at the top of a search and how ridiculously wrong they are even on basic facts. Trains Magazine now finds itself going down the same rabbit hole to save a few bucks, maybe there's nobody left in the office to edit stuff? UP 4014 on the R&N sounds awesome though, anyone got a one-seater drone? Lol... JG Date: 04/07/26 09:58 Re: Reading & Northern Re:UP4014 Author: Lackawanna484 what's an editor? Is that like a spell-check program?

Date: 04/07/26 18:35 Re: Reading & Northern Re:UP4014 Author: MP403 Like other media outlets, Trains uses this AI-generated narration to help visually impaired readers or others who may have difficulty reading. It's a service they would not be able to provide otherwise, unless someone wants to volunteer as a narrator every day.
It's hard to believe that a post about a 4-8-4 operating the same day as a 4-8-8-4 in 2026, and that you can buy tickets to witness it, devolves into a discussion about AI. jgilmore Wrote: > > Exactly my thought too.
