No Bull #2 - UP 3985 upgrade near Oxman, OR (1995)
Author: E25

Ted Curphey ( funnelfan ) posted an impressive "Nostalgia" photo of "Bull Moose" UP 2-8-8-0 #3524 descending the grade near Hindman / Durkee, OR earlier this morning.

I realized  that I had caught another steamer, the now-retired UP #3985 accompanied by the now-stored E9s ascending the grade westbound at the same location a few years later.

3985 was not "retired,"  it was disposed of....

For those curious, here's a thread that talks more about this trip. Long story short: 3985 and the three E9s teamed up for a three-week trip in September and October 1995 sponsored by the Pacific Limited Group that ran Denver-Spokane-Portland-Pocatello with side trips to Bonners Ferry, Bend, and Silver Bow.

Hard to believe UP got rid of their E's, and the DDA40X unit.  It was the perfect P.R. fleet along with the steam engines.

Thing is You Know Who wants as much as the old crews stuff gone, it's sad and I can't wait to see 3985 back!

The E's are still here in Cheyenne, they were not given to Silvas.  That could change but they are here.

Exactly and the sad part is 844's still sitting at Cheyenne rusting away!

<SIGH>

Once again, another incorrect innuendo laced post by coach.

Coach just loves to make posts that are factually WRONG!
