Steam & Excursion > 4014 between Ogden and Morgan

My two boys and I, and some other members of their model railroading club, made a trek up to Ogden for the public viewing of 4014. Before heading back to Phoenix on our long drive home, we headed up the Weber river to catch Big Boy heading out of town. Found a great spot to view it at a highway rest area... not much of a secret given the number of people there. It was great watching, and hearing, it come up the valley.

On our way out of the valley we ended up pacing UP 1616 and 1776... we thought they'd have been a lot later following Big Boy, but it was only about 15 minutes later. So, once we were far enough ahead we pulled over and managed to snag a few photos of the loco and the rest of the passenger set. The Abraham Lincoln loco is really quite a stunner on the front. I want to model that beauty...

Sadly I had to scramble out of my car and only got to use my phone for these shots.

Fantastic coverage! Thank you for sharing! I must say, however, that I disagree with the addition of the gold (or brass?) "eagle in flight" model over the headlight. It just looks very out of place to me and it displays exaggerated contrast by adding something too diminutive and delicate to the front of a machine that couldn't exist farther from those descriptors. Great pictures, though!
