Silvis steam shop photos
Author: AndyBrown

The Silvis museum held their spring fundraiser yesterday.  Here are some photos if anyone's interested.

1.  First up was the gorgeous 537 doing laps on the front siding.

2-3.  Shop tours were sold as self guided which worked better than last year, and much less expensive at $20.  This is NRE's end of the shop which was off limits but looks like some UP rebuild fodder for MOW trains was on hand.

I dont think they are ever going to get the Feather River painted. Looks like its sliding down the priority list further by the day.

But its a nice look at the operation.

Is that Conrail SD50 officially part of their collection or is it still owned by NRE? Glad to see at least that NRE is aware of what they've got with that unit.

Thanks for showing us your tour.
Wow you can sure see the immense size and length of 3985's boiler and firebox that way, without the front driver assembly and wheels, that normally fill in that space.

I'm not sure but guessing it's theirs since they had it out there.  I agree, it's a nice piece of history to be preserved.

I think it's SP 2 tone gray.  I'm guessing it's a sleeper from what can be seen of the window arrangement but it was not easy to get a good view of the car.

Well,it didn't look too much different than last year, but there could have been a lot of boiler work done that's not really noticeable too.  And the tank for the tender was new.  But just from the way it looks, seems like it's got a while yet before it's back on the road.

Thanks, Andy, for posting your images on the great opportunity to visit the Railroading Heritage of Midwest America (RRHMA).  Wanted to join you but this past weekend the Center for Railroad Photography & Art was holding their annual meeting in Indiana.  I hope to visit Silvis later this year.
