NYC 3001 Getting Tender Loving Care at Elkhart, IN
Author: cozephyr

The New York Central Museum at Elkhart, Indiana, had Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society crew working hard to move New York Central (NYC) 3001 Mohawk 4-8-2 from Elkhart, IN, to New Haven, IN, this summer.  Thanks to the hard working crew sharing a few moments with visitors during their work session on Friday, 24 April 2026.  Fort Wayne Group president Chuck Young was one of the gents who filled us in on their work.

The 3001 is NOT a "4-8-4", but a 4-8-2.

For what it's worth, only two NYC Mohawks were retrofitted with Timken roller bearing rods, #3144 and #3148.
