When I see the size of the 3700-class tenders, I wonder why UP's Big Boy class didn't have larger tenders?

Just how much "larger" do you want on the UP 4000 class locomotives? Isn't 28 tons of coal and 25,000 gallons of water (last order of 4000s) enough for you?

There was always the length of turntables to consider.

Installing longer turntables had to be a logistical and financial nightmare.

Once again, you do not care about finding out facts before posting:

ATSF 3700 class
  • Water: Originally held 15,000 gallons. Around 1938 then held about 20,000 gallons
  • Coal: Originally held about 20 tons
UP BigBoy class
  • Water: 24,000 - 25,000 gallons
  • Coal: About 28 tons
