This does not look like the frame and running gear for 587 - that running gear likely is for the Soo Line 2-8-0 being worked on there. The boiler is def 587. Date: 05/06/26 08:37 Re: Nickel Plate 587 at Kentucky Steam Heritage Author: junctiontower I thought it was just an ownership transfer from whoever paid for it when it was rescued from Noblesville, to the Kentucky steam Heritage operation. Is that not correct or has something changed? The chain of events that led to # 587 being in Kentucky in the first place, angers me to the point of wanting to go medieval on the people responsible. I appreciate everything that the Kentucky people have done to preserve the locomotive up to this point, but in my heart of hearts, I wish I could go back somewhere closer to its home territory. I wish itcould go to the FWRHS, but they have a couple lifetimes worth of work on their plate as it is. I'm all for getting NYC #6001 up and going, but I'm disappointed that it means that NKP #624 will likely be on the back burner until I'm too old to care anymore. Oh well, be happy for what you DO have, not what you don't.

I thought it was privately owned and moved to KSH for storage. When the owner couldn't pay storage fees it was set for auction, but that auction was stopped to allow for further negotiations between the owner and KSH. I don't recally hearing anything since.
The Soo Line 2-8-0 is supposedly owned by the Big South Fork Scenic Railway but I've not seen any formal announcements to that fact. Given the Saga BSFSR faced with their 0-6-0's restoration and issues with a certain contractor, that might be one that doesn't get actively discussed until completion is imminent however long that might take. Or are you saying that is the engine that is now for sale? Date: 05/06/26 09:16 Re: Nickel Plate 587 at Kentucky Steam Heritage Author: wp1801 Some assembly required!

The street running was fantastic, a wonderful day. We missed a lot of sleep to be there but it was worth it. I hope this locomotive finds a good home sooner than later.
