Very, VERY nice. Must admit that I like the one in the rain the best.

Thanks.

Awesome coverage as usual Mary.  I too really liked the scene in the rain along with the sound of the raindrops hitting your mic.

Great video and audio.  That engine really looks extra good in that passenger livery.  And I thought Daylights were the only cool engines around.  Now I see what DPM was talking about when he went on and on about Southern steam power.

Great job Mary, as usual.
You should run a videography school for hopeful railfans.
Your work and scene locations are always top drawer.

She's a beauty and so is the video.

it appears to be mostly 25mph running.   Does it get any faster?

It doesn't exceed 20 on the CCKY. There have been rumblings about increasing it ever since they put down CWR, but nothing yet.

10 on the NS East Industrial lead.

Excellent indeed. Not sure if the sound was raindrops hitting an umbrella but that was my favorite scene as well. I’ve always loved 4501’s whistle - to me it has a haunting quality to it. Thanks for keeping it rolling to hear the whistle again at the end. And green is how I remember seeing 4501 as a kid. Thank you for posting.

Since there have been several comments about that shot in the rain, here's the story.  When we upgraded from tape cameras to flash memory, I noticed a seller that made weather covers for the model we were using.  There were two left, and I snatched them both up.  They have come in handy on numerous occasions; shooting IAIS QJ 6988 on the back side of a thunderstorm and WMSR 1309 departing Cumberland in a storm come to mind.

The weather can suck all it wants; we're just fine.

As for the sound, the microphones we use are windproofed in multiple layers, and this also helps to protect the electronics in bad weather.  The weather cover has a portion that fits around the microphone and can be seen protruding forward in the photo.  I partially roll this back so that it lets the sound through from the left and right, while protecting the mic from above.  The sound of rain hitting was the rain hitting the cover atop the microphone.

I picked up another of these cameras used over the winter and took both on the trip.  I had one ready to go for bad weather and the other for dry weather.  While it's great to have the protection when the rain hits, the cameras are so much easier to work with when they're "nekked."
