Steamtown's Special Guests
Author: cblaz

I just got home today from three night photo sessions hosted by Lerro Photography at Steamtown featuring two Big Boys, and I'm back on the road chasing UP 4014 tomorrow, so here's just the tip of the iceberg of shots from the night photo sessions that I was able to get to.

1. Thanks to the UP crew for generously turning on the headlight and marker lights on 4014, a battery-powered bulb in 4012, and some fake smoke, we were able to achieve this smoky scene on Sunday night, June 28, 2026. Steamtown had also moved 4012 further forward so the cabs of the Big Boys aligned, not staggered like during Saturday's shoot, which Marc posted here: https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?10,6191296

2. Before Monday night's festivities, another visitor arrived in the form of UP 1616, seen here after being dropped in the yard by the Delaware-Lackwanna.

3. At the start of Monday's photo session, the first setup featured double double Big Boys.

Marvelous opportunity reuniting these massive locomotives.   Pete Lerro did a fantastic job with the night photo ops.  Thanks for your great images.

The Big Boy dolls are a nice touch!

But I am confused:  I was told that Peter Lerro was at the Carillon Park Railroad Festival in Dayton, Ohio, on Sunday.  His company may have organized the three nights of photography at Steamtown, but who actually hosted photographers and gave the orders each night?

Peter Lerro, the painter, was in Ohio this weekend.

Pete Lerro, his son, is the photo charter organizer and was in Steamtown over the weekend.

Wow!  I didn't realize that there was father and son.  When someone would refer to "Pete" Lerro in print, I'd just figured that they were using a shorter nickname, such as "Dave" for "David."

Thanks for the clarification!

That Abraham Lincoln unit is really nice, really sharp--great job on the paint scheme.

In regards to the third photo:  "I'm seeing double here, EIGHT Big Boys!?!?" (Simpsons reference)
