.   .   .   in JAN '76 SP 4449 has just departed Fullerton, CA, and has entered Santa Fe's 4th District San Diego main line for the three or four mile run to Anaheim Stadium where it will enter an industrial spur that runs through the parking lot and be on display for a few days.

Thanks for posting this pic!  My dad let me skip school that morning and he and I watched that train roll by over in Santa Fe Springs. It was kind of early in the morning and not great light, so I don't think I even tried a photo with my little Instamatic. Not sure if we caught up to it again before it got to Anaheim stadium, but we were there to watch it arrive on that track that used to bisect the west side of the stadium parking lots. We rode lots of tourist trains, but that was the first time I ever saw big steam on the main line.

Later when my teacher asked why i was out of school, I told her we went to see the Freedom Train.  Of course she wanted to know all about the historical exhibits we saw. When I explained we just went to see the train she didn't seem to think that was such as great reason to be absent.
