Some Big Boy on the R&N
Author: Mastadon

It was a hot time on the Reading and Northern as the Big Boy visited the Reading and Northern. On July 1st the 4014 left Scranton for Jim Thorpe to overnight before continuing on through Reading the next day.

1. The 4014 was holding at Nesquehoning Junction as the R&N 2102 stormed past with an excursion to Pittston returning to Nesquehoning.
2. The 4014 was exiting the Lehigh Gorge at Nesquehoning Junction.
3. The 4014 was curving through Mahoney Junction on July 2nd with a large group of admirers taking in the sights.

Nice shots, and the last one really shows off 'articulation.'

Great event, great photos!  I think those extra water tenders should also be painted black, not yellow.  "Blend them in" with the engine they are supporting.

Excellent pix. And yes, that last one should demonstrate to everyone why big engines needed to be articulated.
