Steam & Excursion > UP 4014 aka Big Boy in Hbg/Enola Pa

Well, The main reason for my 1 week vacation from Colorado to Pennsylvania can be seen here in these 3 shots. While I shot perhaps 50 or more as 4014 came thru the area these are just some of them.  Hope ya all enjoy them....

 TO's  WM_1109 and I started the day still scouting out locations east of Harrisburg trying to guess where the crowds wouldn't be too bad and we might come away with a decent shot or 2. Went as far east as Derry Road in Hershey Pa. That spot was filling up fast so we started back west. Found a spot at Rutherford Yard along the main at MP 106 but after hearing about NS 29G WB that had 5 BNSF Units trailing the lead motor it went by us and we were unprepared for it to do so. Was actually checking with a friend on it's location and before I could finish the question, 29G rolled by at track speed.  No shots. But we moved west still more. Found a spot that was really nice and it actually turned out to be the 1st place we managed shots at. I must say, the location filled up fast tho, perhaps 20-30 folks.  After that we went west again, this time up to Linglestown Road just short of Rockville Bridge. While the bridge was lined with folks we managed a few shot there as well, and that's where the shots begin here.

Shot 1  Looking east off Linglestown Road towards Harrisburg and the Fuel Pad at MP 107 we waited perhaps no more than 15 minutes after we got there.  UP 4014 and it's entourage are seen slowing and about to pass under PA39/Linglestown Road. Decided not to attempt shots of 4014 crossing Rockville even tho that was perhaps my main goal. Crowds were everywhere, both sides.  Last time I shot from this spot I don't recall the tight chain link fencing placed on the sides of the bridge making this shot a bit more challenging to get, but tho there is some distortion/shading on right side of image, I didn't think it was too bad.

Shot 2.  Over on I81 and the on ramp from US11/15 to go across the river, we got this shot as 4014 shoved down "A" track into yard. That's the west end yard office to the left and what was at one time, still might be referred to by it's name, 111B, a switch tenders shanty, is about where the road crossing is seen.  Spent many hours here with a good friend who worked at CR. Met many other great CR RR'ers there as well.

Shot 3.   We were actually kinda surprised that NS decided to spot the train, which is running as NS 061, here. But it worked out ok as the East Pennsboro Fire Dept could get alongside and top off the water where it was needed at.  This shot is obvious as to where it was taken, with the head end behind.

Today we will continue west, not sure how far, we will just have to see.   Thanks for stopping by. Take care Ben

 Some different looks at 4014. I caught it in person passing by my home along the old Reading Main on its way to Philly. I tried to catch it going by yesterday morning but I had a tight window of time to leave for a Doctor's appointment and 4014 was making short "courtesy" stops including Valley Forge and Phoenixville stations, so I missed it but the younger son got to see it when it stopped in Royersford, he works a couple blocks from the Reading station there.
