Steam & Excursion > C&TS Oil Conversions

I understand C&TS #487 has been converted to an oil burner . In a recent you tube video I saw #487 and #489  double headed and #489 did not show a coal pile above the the tender at Dalton.
Is #489 now an oil burner ? Are other K36 locos on the C&TS oil burners ? Will C&TS move to all oil burners like the D&S to avoid starting fires with hot cinders ? Thanks in advance. 

487 was converted to oil burning a couple of years ago.  489 was converted about 5 years ago.  484 and 488 along with 463 and 168 remain as coal burners.To my knowledge there are no more oil conversions planned at this time.

Where's Wacky Roger when you need him?  😏

And that would include #492 remaining a coal burner as it undergoes restoration. 

A quick edit: #484 is down for its 1472 overhaul but will be unlikely to redume service for another year or two.

I assume that you mean that tounge-in-cheek.  "Wacky Roger", Roger Hogan, passed away several years ago.  I know him--a character, but a great person.

And here's a bit of news subsequent to the posts from Earl and myself above. It was announced at Saturday's C&TSRR Commission meeting that #484's 1472 will not be performed until K-37 #492's restoration to service has been completed. I'll post a link to Saturday's meeting later this afternoon. Also, the RR is having a special fund-raising trip for #492 on September 28.
