Santa Fe 3751
Author: Chico56

I will be posting this on the nostalgia & history forum Saturday, but with all the talk last few days regarding 3751 and 2926 thought I would post here today.  3751 leads the 1992 Santa Fe employee appreciation train westbound at East Perrin, AZ, my photo taken on 9-15-92.  Enjoy and thanks for tuning in,
Bryan Moseley

So that 70+ MPH could be maintained throughout the entire trip from California to Chicago and return. Note that 3751 had no auxiliary tender, so conserving water was of utmost importance.

Yes, I have a couple of old videos covering that run and it's pretty clear that 3751 was nothing more than hood ornament for the majority of the trip other than showing off at a few key locations. No auxiliary tender and desert running, they had to conserve every drop of water thay had. Very nice looking train though. It seems like in the 80's - 90's people didn't get bent out of shape over diesels in the consist like they do today. Maybe it was just more rare? I remember riding an excursion behind 611 where a newly painted NS Operation Lifesaver unit was included in the consist. People seemed just almost as interested in the diesel as an added bonus as the J.
