Steam & Excursion > SP 2472 question

I am watching a "California's Gold" episode of the 1994 (?) trip of the 2472 to San Luis Obispo to celebrate the arrival of the first steam train.  The engineer looked like he was not old enough to drink alcohol.  Who was the engineer and how old was he then?

Bill Stetler, persoaally groomed by our premier engineer Neil Vodden.  If memory serves me, Bill went work for AMTRAK and then became CMO for Canadiaan Pacoific and ran the 4-8-4 Royal Hudson.

The Canadian Pacific "Empress" was NOT a "4-8-4" nor was/is it a "Royal Hudson". The #2816 is an earlier Hudson. Bill has always been our second Engineer when 4449 made longer trips, i.e. more than just one day excursions. I've fired for Bill many, MANY times over the years, and he is an EXCELLENT Engineer. Unless he retired, Bill works/worked for Amtrak out of LA.

William is still working regular jobs for Amtrak out of the Los Angeles crew base.
