UP 3985 in Nebraska
Author: nathan314

Here's a shot of UP 3985 just outside of Lodgepole, NE on the way to the Superbowl. Consist is 3985, two water bottles, step car, tool car, power car, concession car, and a coach.

I saw that Helicopter shadowing the 3985, but didnt' know it was a Denver news outlet's copter. Have to watch the news for some pictures and I'll post some of my own later.

Best,

Uh, oh, stand by for verbal abuse from the usual suspect helicopter-haters.

Steve Lee and Lynn Nystrom seemed very happy at the start of this trip.

3985 is depicted in artwork departing Lodgepole, Nebraska. Here it is departing that scene.

Perhaps this is a stupid question, but how does the 3985 get by without running ditch lights?

3985 heads off to the east from Lodgepole. They'll arrive at North Platte in a little over an hour in all likelihood, making good time.

Not a stupid question at all, but ditch lights are not required on steam locomotives.

Jim,

In your picture, Steve Lee looks like a new man, almost unrecognizable. Do you know how much weight he has lost?

I would suspect 80 pounds. I myself need to take note of Steve's changes in diet and activity to prevent a heart attack. I suspect weight loss will come as a result of my new job.

Yeah, the copter was Denver news. I didn't see any footage on Denver's CBS station (Channel 4) at 10, though Cheyenne's CBS station (Channel 5) had some aerial shots.

Anyways, here is a shot of 3985 under blue flag in Lodgepole. This shot also shows that my camera knew what day it was, even if I didn't.

Great coverage guys. Thanks from a west coaster who can't be there. Looks from the plumes like it's COLD back there, eh?
