Is the Challenger running track speed between stops??? I have a friend chasing it and wanted to know if it will be running fast, or if there is a speed restriction on it?? He will be around the Pine Bluff, AR to Texarkana part of the journey.. Thanks...

Likely will run at track speed. I would imagine they would slow down only if another problem developed. Others can confirm this.

THE 3985 IS A LITTLE BEHIND SCHEDULE. MY GUESS IS THAT IT WILL GO AS FAST AS TIME AND THE RULES ALLOW. WITHIN REASON AND WHAT "EXACT" CONDITION THE 3985 IS IN. THE FATAL WRECK OF CASEY JONES WAS DUE TO NOT WANTING TO BE LATE AND BE ON TIME!!!!!!! SOMETIMES IT IS BETTER TO BE A LITTLE LATE ARRIVING. EVEN FOR TRAINS. I AM A CHRISTIAN. AND I SUGGEST WE ALL PRAY FOR THE CREW'S SAFETY, AND THOSE CHASING THE 3985 AS WELL. VERNON HARRISON

Vern,

I am a Christian, too and I, too, will pray with you for all the people involved in any way with that train.

God Bless,

RDG484

PS: 3985, I read, is good for 70 MPH.

Just so you guys know, the Steam Crew works very hard on these outings. It's not a vacation and I'm certain that they can always use your prayers that everyone will be kept safe and practice safety. I said a few prayers myself that they would be successful in the repair of the 3985 and they could be on their way.

Vernon, are you a retired railroader by chance? Members of my family who were career telegraphers always typed in capital letters.

Best,
Jim Burrill

Here's a MPEG sound movie (449k) of the train speeding past Rison, Arkansas today, Jan 24, 2004. You might have to type this manually since they don't allow web links on trainorders.
