UP's 8444 excursion (Spring 80) SLC-Provo shots

I had the luck of making one of my trips to Utah in the spring of 1980. 8444 ran on two days from SLC-Provo, UT. and return, over the UP line. I was able to ride one day and chase it the other. Here are several of my shots from that day...

Southbound approaching Lakota? Jct. near Orem, where the D&RGW crossed the UP.

nice pictures. She is a beautiful engine. On a side note, I wasnt eve born when these pics were taken.

Hmmm, maybe I should complain that this post has caused tramatic stress because it wasn't the 2472, and it insults the intentions of the GGRM. NOT!!!

I love the pix. Those were the days when UP was really UP. I can only hope 844 will look as nice when outshopped soon.

That picture brings back great memories. I was near the summit at Point of the Mountain, so not far from where this shot was taken. Thanks for the re-run!! Gene Pokorny

My wife,young daughter and I rode this trip.  I was fresh with what would become a 31-year career on Union Pacific having started April 1, 1980. as assistant-director public relations and public relations based in Salt Lake City.  I was acquainted with  8444
