Geeze, where's George Todd when you need him, he was the personal mechanic for these beasts for a long time!

George is working between Roseville and Dunsmuir. I saw him in Fresno 2 trips ago as he was working off assignment. He was working with Craig Thomas that trip.

And by the way, my left knee STILL hurts from those damn engines!

IIRC, acouple of the units owned and operated by the Burlington Junction Railway in Burlington Iowa are ex ESPEE C415's. I'll look up my pictures and see,I remember one still ahas its ESPEE light package.

I was going to say 'the real soft spot' was usually the side of the left knee.

A ex-SP brakie that was in our RR club was telling us about his experiences working with those (at CofI, IIRC), and they were all negative. Eddie told us how hated how exhaust would drift into the cab, the ride, the heat, etc. - said he'd rather have an SW1500 anyday!

George Todd. There's a name from my past. My parents built a cabin up by Crestline and (Young) George and I hauled a load of bridge ties up there in his pickup that we used to build a retaining wall. We came back via Summit and several back roads. Found some ATSF rail that was badly worn and he made a note and was going to call it in. Shortly after that he moved up the Coast. Another Father son rr family.

I think he still had his multi-chime horn under the hood but disconnected. Apparently the CHP had had a discussion about it with him.
