Nostalgia & History > WP wooden caboose in service April, 1971Date: 02/28/06 12:57 WP wooden caboose in service April, 1971 Author: drew1946 One of the last pre-Amtrak charters operated by the SP was a trip from Oakland by way of Sacramento to Cannon where an SN ALCO with a WP wooden caboose met the train and took it to Dozier and on to Rio Vista Jct, and the California Railway Museum.
Looking at the cab on the flatcar in the GGRM train kept reminding me of this shot. A little after the excursion left Cannon, SP #101, The City of San Francisco raced thru with SDP45 #3200 on the head end. The GP9's that brought the excursion can be barely seen in the far background. And with that, I will quit boring you with Kodachrome archeology.
