Nostalgia & History > Soo Line 2719 2000 (And a where was it?)Date: 04/06/06 00:37 Soo Line 2719 2000 (And a where was it?) Author: Mgoldman Going through a bunch of negatives - some are even cooperating.
Here's a scan that's better than the photo I got back 6 years ago. Seems like longer then 6 years.... Soo Line #2719 Could use a confirmation on location - It's between Eau Claire, WI and the High Bridge on the MN border. I think it's near Baldwin? Date: 04/06/06 00:42 Re: Soo Line 2719 2000 (And a where was it?) Author: Mgoldman A few other questions - when this excursion ran in May of 2000,
who owned the line (it appears to be UP now <and not Amtrak), and which direction is the engine going in this photo? Looks like it's Eastbound - I can't recall, but I thought it led West and pushed or was pulled back East? Date: 04/06/06 06:38 Re: Soo Line 2719 2000 (And a where was it?) Author: bnsfbob What's the status on the 2719?
Bob Date: 04/06/06 07:50 Re: Soo Line 2719 2000 (And a where was it?) Author: jcnienow A lease has been completed by the Lake Superior Railroad Museum of Duluth, MN. Hopefully this
will mean frequent steam excursions on the North Shore line this summer! The 2719 is a beautiful example of a Pacific type locomotive. Riding behind it must be experienced .... it is awesome, and the scenery and personnel on the North Shore are outstanding! Date: 04/06/06 22:30 Re: Soo Line 2719 2000 (And a where was it?) More likely near New Richmond on the then WC, now CN mainline. I don't recognize the spot. Date: 04/07/06 20:38 Re: Soo Line 2719 2000 (And a where was it?) Author: cpn SOO6617 Wrote:

I don't recognize the spot. I think this is east of New Richmond. South of US 63 where it goes east-west for a short bit. I believe you were standing on county road "S". Check out this Terra-Server aerial photo. http://terraserver-usa.com/image.aspx?T=1&S=10&Z=15&X=2775&Y=24983&W=3 Craig Date: 04/07/06 21:11 Re: Soo Line 2719 2000 (And a where was it?) For some reason I was thinking the 2719 lead West but looking back at my photos it lead East and that spot fits the bill perfectly. And obviously Baldwin is out as it is on the UP main. Thanks again! Hopefully in Sept there will be some good photo opportunities around the SooLine Historical Society meeting for all of the SOO Line items at the LSRM Mgoldman Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > That has to be it! > Thanks for the research! > For some reason I was thinking the 2719 lead West > but looking back at my photos it lead East and > that spot fits the bill perfectly. > And obviously Baldwin is out as it is on the UP > main. > Thanks again! Not a problem. I figured there weren't many underpasses with that kind of turn in the road after going under. I just fired up my Delorme atlas program and started following the track east from the St. Croix River. Craig |
