Nostalgia & History > California Northern in Woodland, CA - 1995Date: 06/10/06 18:32 California Northern in Woodland, CA - 1995 Author: PasadenaSub While driving from Sacramento to Sears Point (now Infineon) Raceway near Sonoma to catch a Nascar race on the morning in May 7, 1995 - I stopped off at nearby Woodland to see if there was any power on the California Northern. I lucked out and caught GP15-1 108 heading north through town, perhaps coming back from an interchange with SP at Davis.
I recall the late Dale Earnhardt winning his only ever Winston Cup road course race that day at Sonoma, before I came right back to Sacramento in my rental car to fly home to Southern Cal that night. Ironically, around the time that SoCal got it's own big speedway in Fontana, my interest in Nascar faded and now I enjoy other forms of motorsport. For some reason, I think I liked the adventure of traveling to Sonoma and Phoenix to attend the races, as opposed to the easier drive to California Speedway. Thanks for looking, Rich |
