Nostalgia & History > Looking to locate DOVER Series Pullman Cars -Date: 07/19/06 20:43 Looking to locate DOVER Series Pullman Cars - Author: silvercomet All,
I am the volunteer on the classic Pullman DOVER HARBOR (www.doverharbor.com). I am also the webmaster. I am trying to locate current pictures and get current locations for the remaining DOVER Series cars (Two have been scrapped). The last information we have to date on all the cars is: List of Dover Series Cars - Plan 4015C Dover Name Former Name Location Owner Dover Bay ** Adrian Baraboo, WI Circus World Museum Dover Castle Delta Scrapped 3/59 n/a Dover Cliffs Goshen South Plainfield, NJ Jack Bennet Dover Fort Ligonier Nelsonville, OH Hocking Valley Railroad Society Dover Harbor** Maple Shade Washington, D.C. Washington, D.C. Chapter NRHS Dover Hill** Spruce Creek Scrapped 5/61 n/a Dover Patrol Ripley Jamestown, CA California State Railroad Museum Dover Plains ** Toms River Broadhead, WI Charles Wienser Dover Strait Stryker Union, IL Illinois Railroad Museum The car we least seem to be able to find information about is the Dover Cliffs, which is supposed to be somewhere in South Plainfield, NJ. If you have updated/current photos or information on any of the cars, to include location/owner listed above (except DOVER HARBOR), please share them with me. On the two scrapped cars, we would still of course like to compile information/pics if anyone happens to have any beyond what we gleamed in our research several years ago. The information and pictures we have can be found at http://www.doverharbor.com/history.htm . Hopefully the power of the internet and the railfan community can help us update and improve it. Thanks, Jim Lilly Webmaster - http://www.doverharbor.com Mechanical Officer, DOVER HARBOR PS - WE have builders photos for DOVER Hill as it came out in 1934, but Pullman made it a practice not to take pictures of every car, just the first in the series as they came off the assembly line (DOVER HILL) in this case. Just because I don't know, whats the heritage of these cars? I doubt that there are this many remaining EJ&E passenger cars. Thanks, Jeff
Date: 07/19/06 21:39 Re: Looking to locate DOVER Series Pullman Cars - Author: rswebber DOVER STRAIT was rebuilt from STRYKER a plan 2951C car in 1934. It was in the Pullman pool; sold to the NYC after the Pullman suit, leased back to the pool (1948). Sold to EJ&E in Feb 1960
Other cars have varying histories, all DOVER cars are rebuilds. The IRM's Pullman Library has the specifications of the original cars, though the Newberry Library likely has the specifications for the rebuilds (I'd have to look if we have the rebuild specs, typically we don't, depends on how the rebuilds were done, and by whom and when). If I think of it tomorrow I'll take a look. Might also have drawings of them, likely have photos, but as they are Pullman photos, they have the same issues you describe. I'd suggest Bob's Photos, Mike Gruber, Big 4 Graphics as 3 to start with as far as finding photos. Contact me if you need contact information. If you drum up any more information, I'm still interested in everything I can find out about the current disposition of all the DOVER series cars.
