Date: 02/06/07 15:41 Re: More SP oldies but goodies Author: WAF Number One I would say is around Verdi, NV between Truckee and Reno
Number Two is Floriston, CA on Donner Pass between Truckee and Reno Number Five is Stanford Curve on Donner between Truckee and Norden. Number 11, I would say is 1970. The reason being is the consist of the train. If it was 1967, the sleepers would be on the rear. Also the lack of REA express cars, UP and SP mail storage cars etc shows its later than 1967. Great stuff, John!! Keep it coming. Date: 02/06/07 15:48 Re: More SP oldies but goodies Author: SP6190 Corrections made. Thanks.
Date: 02/06/07 15:49 Re: More SP oldies but goodies Author: hogantunnel I'm thinking #1 is a westbound between Reno and Verdi, closer to Verdi.
#2-#4 are a westbound at Floriston, east of Truckee with I-80 behind. Date: 02/06/07 20:06 Re: More SP oldies but goodies Author: rrman6 All great shots again John. Ref. pic #13 fo the SP 3800: I never understood why the SP didn't just deal with the U.S. Gov't surplus and locate some large WWII military searchlights and mount them on these locos. These lights always seemed so ungodly large compared to the rest of the form of the unit. Wouln't another seal beam have peformed the same focal effectiveness?
Date: 05/14/23 11:45 Re: More SP oldies but goodies Author: coach Great photos! Look at old US 40 / I-80---barely any traffic! But lots of trains! On Donner!! Now it's just the opposite: few trains on Donner, but tons of traffic. Those were the days.....
