Nostalgia & History > US flatcars used in odd serviceDate: 02/28/07 18:04 US flatcars used in odd service Author: FT While on an extensive fan trip in Mexico I happened on several NdeM narrow gauge cars on standard
flat cars, going to or from servicing at NdeM car shops. In looking at them now I see all were on US or Canadian cars. I wonder if these cars ever made it back north? I don't know if Mexican cars were ever reloaded in north America before being returned south. All these were friction bearing, but that wasn't unusual in that time frame. I can't make out all the numbers on two, but what can see I is; NdeM 987 on PRR 7475 4 ( can't see second to last number). NdeM 70495 on ICG 905414, and NdeM 70153 on CN 665554. Not positive about the second "5". These cars would probably be retired by now anyway, but I still hear about equipment vanishing southward. The NG cars look like large scale models. If I recalled correctly, some of the cars were south of the border for years and some were real wrecks when they came back to the original owner. I inquired here on TO about a year ago about the current situation and I got an answer that the problem was not nearly as bad these days due to computer tracking on both sides of the border. However, those friction bearing flats have been away from home for a long time.
