Photos of SP crossing Clackamas River?
Author: Milwaukee

I believe there have been at least 3 bridges built by the SP (and it's predecessor line) over the Clackamas River. They even cross at 3 different locations all within eyeshot of each other.

Does anyone have photos of any of the older spans that they can post? I have seen a photo of the original bridge with a 4-4-0 hauling a train across but I've never seen a photo of the bridge that was replaced as a result of building the I-205 freeway. I'd like to see a photo of a train on that one if possible. The foundation of that bridge is fully present today. Can someone also confirm when the last train crossed that bridge?

The stone foundation of the first bridge can still be determined as well.

Thanks

The present span was constructed during a realignment project in 1958, long before I-205 was built. There's a photo of a 4300 crossing the older, downriver span in Austin & Dill's SP in Oregon Pictorial.
