Nostalgia & History > 32 Years Ago, at Jack London Square......Date: 12/18/07 17:39 32 Years Ago, at Jack London Square...... Author: ATSF100WEST This SP Eastbound, led by GP40P-2 3198, IIRC, hung a left at Newark, and headed for Niles Canyon. (3rdswitch, do I have that correct?) The 3198 was later renumbered to SP 7601, and according to current info, it made it into the UP roster as their 1373......
Thanks for looking! Bob ATSF100WEST......Out Date: 12/18/07 18:40 Re: 32 Years Ago, at Jack London Square...... Author: WAF Right turn to Bayshore... OASFY. Oakland wasn't running anything to Tracy via Niles.. only east via Mococo.

We chased this guy, got ahead of him, and went to Newark. The sun was doing it's usual in & out thing. We made a SWAG (didn't own a scanner yet) and positioned ourselves for a shot on the line heading towards Niles. We guessed right, and got him in great sunlight, just after he rounded the bend at the junction, headed east. Now don't beat me up on this, but if had he gone via Dumbarton to Bayshore, I wouldn't have gotten a properly lit shot of him in the morning, correct? Thanks for your input. Thanks for asking. She is doing better, but we still aren't out of the woods yet. She is going in for a nuclear treadmill test in January - they are concerned over her heart arteries and/or heart valve function - not sure what it will result in. Take Care, Bob ATSF100WEST......Out bradleymckay Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Bob: Great image!! Author: 3rdswitch Sorry Bob, can't help you as my memory of that day is pretty much gone. But I do remember that shot and a good memory it is.
JB Date: 12/19/07 05:48 Re: 32 Years Ago, at Jack London Square...... Author: sphogger The second unit is a 3200? Weekend commute power. Hmmm, what train would have run towards Tracy out of Oakland instead of on the Moccoco line? Must have been a small train if it was to tackle the Altamont. I would have hated to get that load of auto's delivered to me after being first out behind the power like that!
sphogger Date: 12/19/07 06:19 Re: 32 Years Ago, at Jack London Square...... Author: WAF All the times I found the 3198 was on the point in December, 1975, it was on Bayshore trains. If it didn't go to Bayshore, then it was a Milpitas Turn which probably explain the route it took and the load of autos on the point. I agree with you SP hogger. Too little power to go via Altamont.
